Every new year comes with its own kind of excitement and enthusiasm but this time especially for those who are almost on the verge of becoming a game developer and a designer THE Global Game Jam is coming back, and Red Apple Learning will be hosting it for the second year in a row from January 30 to 31 and February 1.
Last year, more than 39,000 people joined globally, and thousands of games came out of that crazy weekend. When you realise you’re part of something so huge, it feels different… a bit unreal, in a good way.
Red Apple Learning’s Second Year And Why It Matters
Last year was the first time Red Apple Learning hosted the Jam, and honestly, the energy inside the campus was something else. Teams weren’t just making games they were laughing, solving problems, and somehow still enjoying every moment.One of the participant Upasana Sardar said “I didn’t think I could make a game, but I actually did. That feeling is really addictive!” and that’s partly why the Jam is returning here again.
This year (2026) the venue is; at Mani Casadona, Newtown.
- The game theme will be revealed on the spot.
- You and your team can sit together and map out your plan step by step.
- Brainstorm freely on whiteboards and throw ideas around until something clicks.
(P.S. And yes the short breaks or stretch walks, or a quick tea break are totally allowed when your brain decides to stop cooperating!)
It’s informal, friendly, and creative and it is exactly what a Game Jam should feel like.
A Small City With Big Gaming Dreams
Kolkata has hosted GGJ before, and earlier as well… Flying Robot; founded by Satyajit Chakraborty who played a huge part in keeping that spark alive. Many young developers got their first exposure to game creation because of those early events. Now the torch has been passed on, and Red Apple Learning along with Scope Gaming Community is taking the responsibility forward.
