Red Apple Learning x Scope Gaming Community Organized Global Game Jam 2026 Kolkata Edition Was a Massive Success

Kolkata’s youth have marked their presence on the global map AGAIN!!! And this time on a scale which truly turned heads across the global gaming community.

The Global Game Jam (GGJ) 2026 Kolkata Edition concluded as a massive success. Globally, people saw the city’s powerful participation in the world’s largest game creation marathon. This was the 3rd consecutive year where Red Apple Learning x Scope Gaming Community successfully organized “The Global Game Jam”.  And this year’s edition proved that Bengal is rapidly emerging as a serious force in the global gaming ecosystem.

This year the Global Game Jam was hosted at the Red Apple Technologies production house (a cutting-edge 12,000 sq ft facility at Mani Casadona, Newtown, Kolkata) so the Kolkata leg of GGJ is 3x bigger and way more dynamic than the previous years.

This year the Kolkata jam witnessed over:

Global Game jam Red Apple Learning

  • 150+ registrations
  • 100+ active jammers worked day and night to create original games within 48 hours (from 30thJanuary 2026 to 1st February 2026).
  • 50+ observers attended to explore career opportunities in India’s growing AVGC industry.

So, the event became both a creative challenge as well as a strong learning platform for the youth. Also, by the end of the jam, an impressive 22+ original games were

successfully developed as well as demonstrated. Each and every game which was demonstrated showed:

  • Innovative storytelling mechanics
  • Unique gameplay systems
  • And amazing character building

And the quality of projects showcased the growing maturity of the region’s game development talent.

As an official sponsor, Mr. Pranabes Chandra, owner of CHANDRACON.CO.IN, strengthened the event’s momentum, along with community-focused platform www.playzhub.com, providing participants with enhanced opportunity as well as strategic connection.

The scale of participation welcomed a phenomenal mix of students. A total of 48 institutions from across India and abroad took part in the celebration of creating games… institutions like:

IIT Patna || IIT Kharagpur || Netaji Subhash Engineering College || NSHM Durgapur || University of Chichester || Pailan College of Management and Technology || Deendayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University || The Indian College of Art and Draughtsmanship || Calcutta University and many more…

The event became even more special with the presence of eminent industry leaders and visionaries. Among the distinguished guests was:

  1. Shri Debashis Sen, Former IAS and Ex-CMD of HIDCO
  2. Saurav Gupta, Co-founder of Gunjan Apps & Solutions
  3. Pronoy Chatterjee, Founder of Unquiattable

Who shared their own entrepreneurial journeys, provided practical insights on becoming a successful professional, how students can start small but think big, develop the right skills, stay consistent, take smart risks, and also how they can turn their passion into a sustainable profession in this prosperous AVGC industry.

Adding more inspiration to the event was Mr. Arup Roy, Founder and CEO of Red Apple. He said that “the future of entertainment and digital media belongs to those who are not afraid to try new ideas and experiment. He highlighted how important teamwork, consistency as well as ‘out of the box thinking’ are. He also reminded everyone that a small game made during this 48-hour jam could one day turn into a successful product in the global market, the only thing which is needed as a beginner is to dream big.”

On the 3rd and final day “the game submission and presentation day” we were honoured to have Mr. Satyajit Chakraborty, veteran game developer and Founder of Flying Robot Studio, with us.

He provided proper guidance to the jammers…explaining clearly:

  • What to do
  • What to avoid
  • And how to make a game more meaningful and impactful

He also spoke about:

  • Polishing gameplay
  • Focusing on user experience
  • And building games which will truly connect with players

His honest advice really helped the jammers.

And now the biggest highlight of this year’s edition was…

Kolkata’s jammers recorded higher game submissions compared to several major metropolitan hubs.

It was a proud and powerful moment for Bengal’s developer community. This clearly showed each and every one of us that the gaming ecosystem in West Bengal is growing faster than ever and getting stronger each and every year, and continuously making its mark on the national stage.

Also, globally, this year the GGJ event recorded over 35,427 participants worldwide and developed more than 12,100 games within just 48-hours timeframe.

Hats off to the spirit of every jammer who:

Coded through the night || Brainstormed beyond limits || Turned ideas into playable experiences ||
That too within 48 hours

Kolkata has really set a benchmark, and the momentum is only getting stronger.
