Why Tech Recruiters are Looking for Game Developers?

Large tech giants are looking for game developers in India. Game development as a form of education is at its nascent stage in India. But the demand for skilled game developers are increasing exponentially. There are multiple reasons behind it but here we have asserted some of the key reasons behind growing demand for skilled game developers and designing professionals.

1) Integrated Skill Sets:

Gaming as an industry is the perfect blend of both creative and technical talents. This is where a good artist and a good programmer are equally important. Rapid technological advancements complemented with easy accessibility of world class technology is one of the key reason why tech giants have shifted their focus to gaming industry. Recently, IT giant, Microsoft is about to purchase Activision- a leading game production house with more than USD 68.7 billion. Technological advancements have obliterated the line between profession, entertainment, education and connectivity. Facebook have also initiated their flagship project, Metaverse. Reportedly, they’re about to hire more than 10000 employees for Metaverse project. 2) Gamification:

2) Game Developers needed for Gamification:

According to Google, gamification is the application of typical elements of game playing (e.g. point scoring, competition with others, rules of play) to other areas of activity, typically as an online marketing technique to encourage engagement with a product or service. However we to put it straight, for entire human race, gamification is like an universal language to communicate and solve the most complex of problems. For example, every space research organization depends heavily on simulation. Starting from launch of space probes and satellites to envisioning life on Mars- game engines play a crucial role in running those simulations and understanding celestial environment. Similarly, gamification is extensively used in marketing, advertising, HR, logistics, manufacturing, medical, real estate and even medical industry. Thus the demand for prolific game designers and developers are escalating beyond expectation.

Yes, during Covid19 pandemic, Indian gaming industry have witnessed a an overall growth of 108% in foreign investments. India Brand Equity foundation (IBEF) rightly claimed gaming to be the fastest growing segment of India’s Media and Entertainment industry. Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs & Food & Public Distribution and Textiles, Mr. Piyush Goyal have recently announced that Indian AVGC industry is about to reach Rs.3 lakh crore by 2024. According to the information given by Tracxn Technologies, Investment in the gaming sector expanded 108% to $443.3 million in CY2021 (Jan-Dec) when contrasted with $212.9 million in CY2020.

4) Self Reliant Indian industry:

India has become self reliant in AVGC (Animation, VFX, Gaming & Comic) industry. Domestic consumption of Animation, VFX and Gaming in India has surpassed other countries. Covid 19 pandemic has also played a vital role in increasing the domestic consumption of Animation, VFX and Gaming. During the first 9 months of the lockdown, India became the largest consumer of online games with more than 7.3 billion downloads. In addition to that, increased use of smart phones in rural India, cheaper data cost and increased popularity of real money games have encouraged a paradigm shift in digital behavior of all Indians. Indian AVGC industry has become self reliant and unlike IT industry, Indian gaming production houses no longer depend on outsourcing projects. People have become more comfortable with online transactions and in-app purchases. Thus, gaming industry in India is about to witness a digital revolution both in terms of revenue and career.

Even though block chain technology has been newly introduced in India but Indian companies, influencers, digital artists, animators, designers and designing students are also launching their own NFTs on myriad platforms to grab a slice of this technological breakthrough. This is one of the reasons why IT giants are hiring game engineers and digital artists. Through integration of crypto wallet in Ethereum platform, Indian artists and students of graphic, animation and game designing have also started earning millions through NFTs.

6) Outsourcing hub:

Despite an exemplary rate of domestic consumption, India still remains the best outsourcing destination for global gaming, animation and vfx industry. Firstly, the quality of manpower, secondly the quantity and thirdly the cost efficiency of Indian AVGC industry are reasons that make India the global destination for international production houses. Presently, India commands around 10% of the global market share. According to the latest media and entertainment industry report by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), India has the potential to reach 20-25% of the global market share by 2025.

Information and broadcasting minister Mr. Prakash Javadekar had earlier said that animation, visual effects, gaming and comic are sunrise sectors and Indians are providing back-end support to top filmmakers of the world. “It is time that these professionals started doing more of this for our own films so that the use of animation and graphics in Indian films grows manifold.” Javadekar had said.
